Antique 9K Fancy Barrel Trombone Watch Chain
An incredibly rare Antique Fancy Barrel Watch Chain, featuring beautifully elongated fluted torpedo/barrel links alternating with classic rounded curb links. This is such an unusual variation of the traditional trombone watch chain - substantial, intricate and unmistakably antique. Comes with a working classic dog clasp and T bar with hallmarks on it 9 375 for gold clarity. Gold stamps also on the dog clasp. XRF tested.
Most likely dating to the late Victorian–Edwardian period, circa 1890–1910s, these elaborate watch chains were originally made in Britain to carry a gentleman’s pocket watch across a waistcoat. The fancy barrel links showcase the incredible goldsmithing of the period, with each dimensional open link finished with delicate wrapped detailing at either end. The original-style T-bar completes that classic Albert watch chain look.
At 40g, this one has beautiful weight and presence while the open construction keeps the design elegant. The rosy 9K gold gives it that gorgeous warmth associated with antique British gold - a true collector’s chain and a particularly hard-to-find link style.
