A Fancy Trombone Chain ✨
This is a solid 9K gold antique watch chain with fancy trombone style bar and cable links, most likely dating to the late 1800’s. If you’re looking for a fancy trombone watch chain that is truly unique, with gorgeous rich texture and colouring, this chain is for you!
It has two working dog clasps, each stamped 9 375, and a classic T bar that can be worn on its own or attached to the chain, so you’re really getting two ways to wear it in one piece.
Solid 9K gold, hallmarked 375, dipped in 18K gold for that rich, deep yellow colour. The dipping is purely cosmetic (the chain underneath is solid 9K through and through) and it’s a finish a lot of collectors specifically look for, since it gives you that rich 18K look at a 9K price point. This beauty has a nice weighty feel, but not too heavy, so you can easily layer it with other chains or wear some fun, heavy charms on the dog clasps. If you’ve been on the hunt for a trombone or fancy watch chain, this is a true unicorn, a chain I probably won’t come across again.
In excellent vintage condition with minor, expected wear for its age. One small knick on a bar link, nothing else to note. Dipping is used on many vintage and antique pieces, some have likely been dipped before and you’d never know. Chains typically take years, decades even, to develop a rich patina naturally, but this one already has that deep colour built in. Normal wear, fading and patina will happen over time just like with any chain, and it can always be re-dipped again down the line if you want that rich yellow colour and texture back.
